What is “Long COVID”?
Posted on October 12th, 2021 to CBD Oil
Post-COVID, also known as long-COVID, long-haul COVID, has been described by the CDC as symptoms normally associated with COVID-19 occurring four weeks or longer after the initial infection with SARS-COV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. Symptoms include shortness of breath, fever, fatigue, loss of smell or taste, chest or stomach pains, difficulty concentrating (brain fog) among others. These post-COVID conditions do not only occur in those with severe initial infections but can occur in those who have had mild or no symptoms.
CBD AND INFLAMMATION
Many COVID symptoms are like normal flu-like symptoms because these are how we feel during a normal immune response. However, once we are done battling a virus, we no longer need to produce the cytokines that activate our immune system and inflammation.
CBD has been shown to have strong anti-inflammatory effects in a 2015 phase II study examining graft-versus-host disease, in which donor stem cells see the transplant recipient as a foreign body and enact an immunological effect against them. A 2019 study describes the various avenues CBD uses to decrease the body’s natural inflammatory responses such as decrease of proinflammatory cytokine tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-∝).
CBD CLINICAL TRIAL
A phase 2 clinical trial of the CBD oil MediCabilis has recently begun to examine the effect of this oil on the symptoms associated with post-COVID. This year-long study will give further insight into how CBD’s anti-inflammatory properties can be utilized to treat other diseases.
Along with CBD, cannabigerol (CBG) has also been shown to exhibit high anti-inflammatory properties. Our Advanced Tincture combines both CBD and CBG along with a powerful mixture of anti-inflammatory essential oils to produce a synergistic effect for the most optimum inflammation relief. This product is taken sublingually before a meal to ensure maximum absorption.
